A MAN has been detained after a 14-year-old schoolgirl was left with serious injuries following a 'hit and run' in Orford.

Police were called to reports of a collision at 5.30pm on June 8 involving a Ford Focus and a pedestrian on Fisher Avenue.

The pedestrian – a 14-year-old girl – had sustained serious injuries and was taken to Whiston Hospital via ambulance.

She has since been discharged.

On Friday, a 23-year-old man, from Warrington, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision.

He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
