Most people attended the town centre club between 1972 and 1978 with some of the regulars now living all around the world.

DJ Denny Johnson, who now lives in Australia, and DJ Ian Footitt, in New Zealand, will be returning to Warrington to play tunes with DJ Janet O’Hare will be flying in from Chicago.

Block 1, formerly the Woolpack on Bold Street, has provided the venue for free, being close to the original Carlton and where revellers used to meet before going on to the Carlton.

The event runs on Sunday from 3pm until 10pm and entrance is free.

There will be a collection jar in aid of Kidneys for Life at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

DJ Alan Barnes said: "We will also be thinking of two other resident DJs who have recently passed away – Griff and Keith Brady.

"It should be a great night of classic northern soul and the World Cup will be played on the screen.

"This will be a fantastic reunion of people who used to attend the Carlton in 70s."

Anyone who loved the music played in these two venues is welcome to attend.

DJ Andrew Love added: "It's moving slowly but surely towards the night and I hope we've been able to contact as many old faces as possible about this event.

"As far as we are concerned, everyone is welcome to celebrate this great club.

"It is first and foremost, a reunion of old friends from that golden era, but as we travel along life's highway, it's a joy to add new ones who we can share the passion for the the music and the soul scene with."
