CAMPAIGNERS fighting the controversial local plan and Western Link proposals will hold a protest rally outside the Town Hall this evening, Monday.

It is the latest in a series of peaceful demonstrations against the authority’s plans.

The full council meeting begins at 6.30pm, with the rally due to start at 7pm.

It is set to feature 'canaries' Helen Gurnani and Tanya Baker, who have visited various sites in the town to raise awareness of the threats to Warrington's green spaces posed by the local plan preferred development option (PDO).

Campaigners are calling on the authority to 'protect' the borough.

Publication of the draft local plan is expected in autumn at the earliest, or winter at the latest, before a further public consultation.

Furthermore, a decision is yet to be made on whether the Government will fund the majority of the proposed £212.74 million Western Link scheme.

The bypass would connect the A56 Chester Road with the A57 Sankey Way in Great Sankey.

Cllr Kath Buckley (CON – Lymm South) is set to raise the PDO at today's full council meeting to Cllr Judith Guthrie, executive board member for environment and public protection.

She will ask: "When will the council be publishing responses to the PDO consultation that ended in September 2017?"
