ARE you proud to be from Warrington?

What's the best and worst things about where you live?

These are just some of the questions we asked in our 'How do you feel about living in Warrington?' survey.

And some of the results might just surprise you.

A total of 22% of readers told us they were ‘very proud’ to be from Warrington while 20% said they were proud ‘sometimes’.

More than half of our readers told us they liked Warrington but felt there was room for improvement.

Warrington people and the future of the town scored highly when it came to the best things about our borough.

Nice places to walk and close proximity to cities Liverpool and Manchester were also some of the most popular alternative suggestions.

But there’s no prizes for guessing what topped the poll for the worst thing about living in Warrington – the traffic.

More than 66% of readers told us it’s the thing they hate the most followed by roadworks, building work, potholes and a need for more shops.

Residents also told us they hate people ‘constantly putting the town down’ and complained there needed to be more things for young people to do.

DO YOU GET ON WITH YOUR NEIGHBOURS?

Our survey also found Warrington must have some of the friendliest neighbours in the country with 72% telling us they get on well with the family next door.

Although 15% of our readers admit to never seeing their neighbours.

Just under half of respondents said they were ‘quite happy’ about their life in Warrington while 22% were very happy.

It was generally a positive picture when it came to safety in Warrington too.

We asked if people would feel comfortable walking home in the dark and 43% said ‘most of the time’ while less than 10% said they never feel safe.

One of the biggest splits of opinion was how easy it was to get a GP appointment with more than a quarter able to get one within a week and 22% admitting they often give up trying.

WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO NEXT...

Readers also made it clear to us the stories they prefer to read in our newspaper and online are positive, happy stories about the town they live in and the majority use Facebook the most when it comes to social media.

And so with that in mind, this week we’re launching our #WonderfulWarrington Facebook group.

Click here to join or search for #WonderfulWarrington in Facebook groups.

This will be a place celebrating everything the town has to offer and the residents that make it so wonderful.

Only positive comments will be encouraged to match the content in the group.

It will also be a home for upcoming events in the town and a place families can share their top tips for days or meals out in Warrington.

Hayley Smith, Warrington Guardian editor, said: "It's been really fascinating getting an insight into how readers feel about they town they live in.

"While it was no surprise that traffic was the thing that people hate the most, the survey also highlighted there was a lot for residents to be proud of.

"A quarter of readers told us Warrington people were the best thing about the town while the second most popular response was the future with readers looking forward to the cinema and Bridge Street development opening.

"We hope our new Facebook group will be the home of plenty more exciting developments in the town and bring our readers together."
