THE suffrage flag was proudly displayed at the Environment Agency offices in Latchford to mark the centenary of the first women being given the vote in the UK.

The flag was displayed within the building to celebrate the 100th anniversary last Thursday, June 14.

During the celebrations, past and present Environment Agency women were showcased for their achievements.

Sarah Davies, Environment Agency Northern Powerhouse manager, said: “It has been a privilege to welcome the suffrage flag to our offices here in Warrington.

“As the Environment Agency, we pride ourselves on being able to offer equality and opportunity to everyone, so it is symbolic that this important flag, which marks a key step on the journey through equality, should have one of its stops in our organisation.

“Women campaigned for more than 60 years for the right to vote and we want to celebrate that incredible achievement.”

The flag will continue its journey over the Mersey and will conclude its UK relay on December 14.
