MEMBERS of the public joined staff, residents and volunteers from Warrington Housing Association to raise more than £140 for Alzheimer's Society.

The organisation took part in the dementia charity's annual Cupcake Day on Thursday, selling nearly 300 cupcakes at its sheltered accommodation schemes across the borough and at their LifeTime Centre, on Sankey Street - which provides activities for people aged 50 and over.

As well as making, buying, selling and eating cupcakes, the LifeTime centre also held a cupcake decorating competition with winner Chris Somerset being presented with a chocolate trophy.

Andrea Rees, LifeTime officer, who organised the event said: "We had an amazing day and we would like to give a big thank you to everyone involved. There were so many delicious cupcakes and the effort people made in decorating them were fantastic.

"With one in three of us developing dementia, it is vital that we support charities such as Alzheimer's Society, and hope our efforts will go some way to helping people in Warrington to live well with dementia."

To date, Cupcake Day has raised £1.4 million since 2016 to help people live well with dementia.

Dementia is a disease of the brain and every three minutes someone is given a diagnosis, for which there is currently no cure.
