MORE than 500 people attended a Bewsey mosque on Friday to mark the end of a 'very special' Ramadan.

Residents from the Muslim community made their way to Warrington Islamic Centre, on Lockton Lane, for Eid al-Fitr prayers.

Muslims fasted throughout the holy month to devote themselves to their faith.

Mo Hussain, vice chairman of Warrington Islamic Association, said: "It has been a very special Ramadan and Eid for the Muslim community of Warrington this year.

"Firstly, because all Muslims started the month of Ramadan on the same day and celebrated the festival of Eid on the same day, unlike other years.

"Secondly, Warrington Islamic Centre was very fortunate to have one of the very best scholars, Sheikh Ibrahim, stay with us for the last 10 days of Ramadan to deliver lectures twice daily.

"The Eid we've celebrated is mainly about giving to charity and the Muslim community did just that by raising a lot of money for the war-affected countries, including Syria and Yemen."

People also attended the town centre mosque for Eid al-Fitr prayers on Friday.
