PLANNING enforcement officers have launched an investigation after a site was being used for vehicle parking without permission.

In March, Cheshire Airport Parking Ltd submitted proposals to develop land formerly home to Caddick's Clematis Nursery, on Lymm Road, for the storage of vehicles.

Dozens of objections have been submitted in response to the plans to develop a 1,000-space storage facility.

The design and access statement, prepared by application agent Barton Willmore, on behalf of Cheshire Airport Parking Ltd, confirms the applicant's 'commercial operations' relate to the provision of off-site parking for customers of the Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport, who wish to park their cars or vans while on holiday.

Along with seeking permission to carry out demolition work, the company has applied to change the use of the site to allow for up to 1,000 cars to be parked up.

However, the council confirmed a temporary 'stop notice' has been issued to stop 'activity' on the land.

The notice, which took effect last Thursday, ordered the firm to 'cease all activity' in relation to using the land 'for vehicle parking and the laying of hardstanding'.

A council spokeswoman added: "The matter is under investigation by planning enforcement officers."

Cheshire Airport Parking Ltd and Barton Willmore have been asked for a comment.
