A YOUNG woman has launched an appeal to find the unsung hero that came to her aid after a crash on the M6.

Claire Grey was travelling home from Birmingham on Thursday afternoon when her blue Peugeot was hit by a Land Rover Discovery just after junction 21.

The 27-year-old, from Woolston, was trapped in her vehicle when another member of the public stopped at the scene to help.

"He stayed and reassured me as I was panicking and in extreme pain," said Claire, who works for a cosmetic company in Liverpool.

"I couldn't remember his name but he was very kind and calming.

"He did tell me he had just finished work and worked at Manchester Airport on check-in.

"He kept me talking until the ambulance and fire service arrived."

Claire, who was taken to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, described the man as mixed race and in his late 30s or early 40s.

She said: "I was travelling alone and the reason I want to find him is to say thank you for what he did – it was above and beyond the call of duty.

"He didn't have to help but he did and I wouldn't have stayed calm without him keeping me talking."

Claire is now recovering at home but has said she 'got off lightly' with a broken collar bone and leg.
