A PENSIONER has died following a blaze in the grounds of a nursing home in Woolston yesterday, Monday.
The elderly man was initially treated by firefighters at the scene but he was then taken to Whiston Hospital where his condition was described as critical.
He later died from his injuries today, Tuesday.
Crews from Warrington and Lymm were deployed to Heathercroft Care Home, on Longbarn Lane, at around 6.10pm.
On arrival they discovered a fire in a smoking shelter area outside the home where they used water to extinguish it.
Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
