A TOWN centre convenience store has been given the lowest possible rating of zero for food hygiene after inspectors found that the premises was infested with rats.

Kubus Polski Sklep on Legh Street was visited by the Food Standards Agency on Friday, February 16.

And a subsequent report into the premises has found evidence of the shop being infested with the vermin.

The report, seen by the Warrington Guardian, noted that rat droppings were found throughout the convenience store.

Further investigations found that bait in pest trap boxes had been eaten while rats had gnawed holes into part of the premises.

Meanwhile, there was no running water supply at the premises - meaning that sinks in food preparation areas and the shops' toilet were not in working order.

The toilet itself was also not working and was dirty, while the lavatory's floor and ceiling were in a poor condition.

Kubus Polski Sklep was found to be in a poor state of cleanliness overall, with areas such as a counter next to a sink found to be in a dirty condition.

The premises has a chequered past, with a number of people relating to the business having been convicted of offences relating to illegal cigarettes.

In December 2015, employee Abbas Hamad Mashkoye was fined more than £2,000 for selling illicit tobacco from the premises.

Then, in March 2016, Soleman Hossein received a suspended prison sentence after more than 10,000 illegal cigarettes were found at the shop.

The shop's owners have not responded to a request for a comment from the Warrington Guardian.
