PLANS to build five apartments on a pub car park in Burtonwood have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

The developer is seeking permission to construct the residential properties on land which was previously part of the Chapel House Inn car park.

The design for the site off Chapel Lane includes three one-bed apartments and two two-bed apartments as well as seven car parking spaces.

The residents’ allocated spaces would be controlled by the use of fold-down parking posts so that unauthorised parking by pub customers and the general public could be prevented.

The apartments would be offered for sale or for let on the open market.

A spokesman for the developer said: “The applicant considers that the proposed development will provide a good example in the re-use of previously developed land, which will contribute towards the borough’s housing stock without harming residential amenity or highway safety.

“In particular the apartments will be classed as affordable housing.

“Care has been taken to ensure this development reflects its position in the locality, along with the existing residential arrangements in proximity to the site and the adjacent public house, which is locally listed as a building of historic importance.”

This is not the first time a planning application has been submitted for this plot of land.

In April 2016, an application to construct a semi-detached building to house retail units and remodel the site to form 14 car parking spaces were refused by the council’s planning committee.

There had been a number of objections to the development including concerns raised by council leader Terry O’Neill (LAB – Burtonwood and Winwick), who spoke out to oppose the plans during the meeting.

All councillors voted to refuse the plans.
