A TRAINEE beauty therapist is calling on the Warrington community to help her progress to the final of a prestigious make-up competition.

Holly Barnes, who lives in Winwick Park and is studying to be a make-up artist at Sylvia Hope Private College, is one of just 10 people left in the NYX Professional Makeup UK & Ireland FACE Awards, which received 1,600 entrants.

The competition asks hopefuls to send in an initial make-up creation of their choice, before 20 entrants are chosen to create a look based on a given theme.

The remaining 20 are then whittled down to 10, before a public vote, which closes on May 28, decides on the five who will attend the finals in June.

Holly is now urging the public to pull together to help her progress to the final.

She said: “I’m very proud of where I’m at now and I love what I’m doing. My message to people would be for them to support a local trainee beauty therapist who has a good chance of getting her name out there.”

Holly reached the final 20 of the competition last year and is delighted to have gone one step further this time round.

“It’s a really big achievement, I’m now up against people with lots of followers who are professional make-up artists and I’m only a trainee,” she said.

Holly’s initial entry, titled ‘EVE’, was based on the Bible’s Garden of Eden, before she earned a place in the top 10 with a full animal look as part of an animal kingdom glam theme.

The remaining entrants were then tasked with a ‘Punk Extravaganza’ theme, with Holly basing hers on the Sex Pistols song, ‘God Save the Queen’.

“To progress further would mean a lot,” Holly added.
