CAMPAIGNERS are preparing to show the council 'how much we care about our town' during a protest on Monday.

Residents opposing the authority's Western Link and local plan preferred development option proposals will gather outside the Town Hall at 5pm ahead of the full council meeting.

The council is battling for Government funding for the proposed £212.74 million bypass, with the Department for Transport due to announce a decision imminently.

Furthermore, the draft local plan is expected to be out in autumn at the earliest, or winter at the latest, before a further public consultation.

But the authority's development proposals have been met with anger by campaigners.

Helen Gurnani said: "Things are hotting up now – let's get out there together and show them we're not standing for this nonsense.

"Their plans and procedures are outrageous.

"We need to show how much we care about our town because once it's gone, it's gone."
