THE 135th Mayor of Warrington will be sworn in at the Town Hall next Monday.

Deputy mayor Cllr Karen Mundry (LAB – Latchford East), who has been carrying out the mayoral duties following Cllr Les Morgan's (LAB – Latchford West) resignation as mayor in March, will officially take over the ceremonial chains during the full council meeting.

Cllr Wendy Johnson (LD – Lymm North and Thelwall) is also set to be sworn in as deputy mayor.

In March, the mayoral selection committee agreed to recommend that the Liberal Democrats nominate the deputy for 2018-19 and mayor for 2019-20.

The ruling Labour group had initially been interested in putting someone forward, with some members nervous about the prospect of leaving the borough with a Liberal Democrat as mayor in 2019-20 – with the next local elections due for 2020.
