SHOPPERS in Penketh were treated to outdoor music and a barbeque organised by six churches in the area.
A band played over three days from Thursday in Honiton Square; chairs were set out for the audience and volunteers cooked up free food.
Paul Layfield, from Penketh, one of the organisers, said: "It was a fresh attempt to bring the Christian church back into community life."
More than 100 volunteers from St Joseph's, St Paul's, St Mary's, Bethany Pentecostal, Penketh Methodist and King's Church took part.
Paul said support from trades people and councillors meant the event could be repeated.
Another boost to organisers was that the barbecue scored four out of five for hygiene from the borough council.
