COUNCIL chief executive Steven Broomhead and Betfred boss Fred Done feature on a list ranking the 100 most powerful people 'who make a difference in the north west'.

Insider's annual 'Power List' has ranked leading figures in business, as well as the public and private sectors, based on their 'economic impact, influence and visibility'.

Greater Manchester Mayor and former Culcheth resident Andy Burnham came first, with Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese second and Bruntwood chief executive Chris Oglesby third.

Peel Group chairman John Whittaker placed fourth, Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry 11th and joint managing director of Muse Developments Matt Crompton coming in 20th spot.

Muse Developments is a key partner of the multi-million pound Time Square regeneration project.

Fred and Peter Done, founders of Betfred, which has its head office in Birchwood, ranked 28th.

Council chief executive and Warrington Wolves vice chairman Mr Broomhead placed 65th, Peel Holdings director Robert Hough 96th and Alex Laffey, chief executive of Eddie Stobart Logistics, which has its headquarters in Appleton, 97th.

Insider also assessed 'influence and visibility outside the day job', as well as longevity and stability.
