KINDER eggs wrapped in condoms were used by drug mules in an attempt to smuggle illicit substances into Creamfields dance festival last year.

Four men were hauled before Warrington Crown Court on Monday after being convicted of a string of drug offences.

Derek Jones, who was prosecuting in all four cases, said: “Creamfields is an electro dance festival which has a big problem with class A drugs, particularly MDMA and ecstasy tablets.

“Officers report that some people have a blasé attitude towards taking drugs at such festivals and a blasé attitude at these festivals to supplying drugs to others.

“These are people who are not dealers in the outside world but think they can make a fast pound by supplying to other festival goers.

“There are lots of warnings and case studies at the entrances. These case studies are of people who had good jobs telling people about how they went to prison.

“There are also lots of bins to throw drugs in should they have second thoughts.”

Jamie Stewart, from Wallasey Village, was convicted of possession with intent to supply MDMA and possession of cannabis after stuffing the equivalent of 37 ecstasy tablets into a kinder egg and secreting them within his backside.

The 20-year-old apprentice scaffolder, who also had a small amount of cannabis, at first claimed he was smuggling in the drugs, which had a street value of £370, for friends.

But he later accepted that he was going to sell on the drugs.

Rhys Brydon, from Cardiff, was convicted of possession with intent to supply MDMA and possession of cocaine and ketamine after he also tried and failed to conceal drugs in a kinder egg inside his body.

The 21-year-old electrical engineer was searched and 50 ecstasy tablets valued at £500 were uncovered as well as 2.63g of ketamine and 1.71g of cocaine.

Aspiring sports coach Youseff Boukassem, from Egremont, was convicted of possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession of ketamine and acquiring criminal property.

The 19-year-old was searched after he was spotted acting suspiciously with four other men.

Security staff followed Boukassem who was seen throwing a bag into a tent.

Following a search, 31 wraps of cocaine valued at £730 were uncovered as well as three bags of ketamine. A total of £730 in cash was also seized.

Christopher Henson, from Pottersbury, was convicted of possession with intent to supply cocaine and MDMA and possession of ketamine.

The 24-year-old ground worker, who has a conviction for battery from 2014, was found with drugs hidden in a black bin bag totalling almost £1,000 as well as £125 in cash.

All four men were given a two year suspended  sentences and unpaid work.
