THE Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub is hosting a talk aimed at helping people gain knowledge and confidence to engage positively with people with dementia.

Melissa Critchley is actively involved with the Dementia Friends Initiative as a champion and as part of Dementia Action Week, she will be giving a talk at the hub on Tuesday, May 22 at 2pm.

Melissa owns Home Instead Senior Care which specialises in non-medical care of older people in their own homes.

Following Melissa’s talk there will be a tour of the building to explain the way it is being designed to be dementia friendly.

LiveWire is working closely with the University of Stirling to gain dementia friendly accreditation which will make Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub the first fully integrated, dementia friendly public building in the UK.

Wendy Molyneux, strategic library manager, said: “Dementia presents one of the biggest health and social care issues of the 21st century. Despite advances there is still a lack of knowledge and understanding about dementia so getting the message out that it a condition and not just part of the ageing process is important.

“We are thankful for Melissa for spending time to share her experience and knowledge with us.”

This will be a relaxed and informative session which is free to attend.

However, tickets are limited to 12 people and are available from all Livewire Libraries.
