OUR annual school awards which celebrate the best teachers, pupils and schools in town have launched and we want you to send in your nominations for 2018.

The awards will help shine a light on inspiring leaders and unsung heroes of our town and will be presented during a night of celebration at the Village Hotel on Thursday, June 21.

Last year, Stockton Heath Primary School were awarded School of the Year for the second consecutive year.

This is a school that faced an uphill battle from special measures into the flourishing school it continues to be today.

Driven by strong leadership and passionate teaching staff, judges said it fosters a positive atmosphere and excitement for new ways of learning that is contagious

Dan Harding, head teacher, said: “Receiving the 2015-16 School of the Year Award was a very proud moment in the 100+ year history of our school. To know that the nomination process for this award starts with our own parent community was particularly satisfying as it provides validation of all the hard work that goes into making a school successful and also most importantly a safe, caring and exciting place to learn.

“Pupils and parents provide the strongest voice about a school and we pride ourselves on communication and how we actively involve these key stakeholders in our development. The award recognised that the school had come through a difficult period and made huge strides on its improvement journey.

“Governors, leaders, staff, children and parents were so delighted to receive the award and felt that it was an honour but that it was also well-deserved. To receive the same award again the next year (2016-17) was much more of a surprise simply because the standard of education in Warrington is so high, particularly in the primary sector, that there are literally hundreds of potentially worthy recipients.

“I was emotional receiving the award and extremely proud knowing that our parents recognise that we continue to go from strength to strength and that there is no end to the development journey. The award has undoubtedly increased the public’s already positive perception of the school and created a confidence and pride within our ethos and culture; it is the best moment of my seven-year headship career so far by some margin!”

The awards are free to enter and there is no limit on how many nominations you can make for the 12 categories available this year.

All applications will be considered, and the judges’ decision is final. The deadline for entries is Friday, May 4.
