A RIVAL junior football team has thrown its support behind another club after burglars ransacked the team’s clubhouse.

Birchwood JFC under 9s organised a charity friendly match against Bruche Athletic JFC after the club was recently targeted by thieves.

Parent Vicky Brinksman, whose two sons play for Bruche Athletic JFC, said: "Their coach John Harrison contacted us and told us he used to play for Bruche as a child.

"It is a club close to his heart and he has good memories so he wanted to help.

"The two teams played on April 18 in the glorious sunshine and the game finished 1-1 which was a great result for both.

"Then the dads played each other which was entertaining to watch.

"The children from Birchwood raised more than one hundred pounds for Bruche which was amazing and we want to thank them for this."

Generous supporters from the community have donated thousands of pounds after Woolston Park Rangers Cabin, which is the home of Bruche Athletic JFC, was targeted on March 25.

Raiders smashed through a disabled access door before stealing refreshments, maintenance tools and other equipment.

Doors had been kicked in and drinks and rubbish was thrown over the floor of the cabin.
