TWO Warrington runners finished the London Marathon on a high after getting engaged just minutes before crossing the finish line.

As they were approaching the end of the 26.2 mile race, Craig Dennen got down on one knee to pop the question to his girlfriend of four years Lisa Lee.

The pair, who live in Great Sankey, ran Sunday's marathon together in five hours and 46 minutes, having completed the 2018 Manchester Marathon a few weeks earlier.

Thirty-nine-year-old nurse Lisa said: "It was a huge surprise. I had absolutely no idea, but I was over the moon."

Craig, 48, and Lisa both run for Widnes Running Club and are planning to complete five marathons throughout 2018 to raise money for Sense UK, a charity that enhances the lives of those who lose multiple senses.

After finishing the race on Sunday, Lisa said: "We regularly train together and we ran Manchester marathon together on April 8.

"We don't always run together at events because we try to challenge ourselves, but for these two, with London being so close to Manchester Marathon we decided to absorb the atmosphere and enjoy it, and not run for a time.

"And it was so hot – so we decided we wanted to just enjoy this race."

The couple will be running the Mount Snowdon Trail, Snowdonia Marathon and Chester Marathon this year.
