BLUEPRINTS for the proposed £6.5 million Warrington Youth Zone look set to be approved next week.

OnSide Youth Zones’ planning application proposing the construction of the purpose-built facility – including a sports hall, outside skate park, climbing wall and board room – will come before the development management committee on Wednesday.

The site is located at the junction of Foundry Street and Dallam lane, to the south of the University Technical College building, in the Stadium Quarter.

The three-storey facility would be used by Warrington Youth Club, which has operated since 1935.

However, one letter of objection has been received from an adjacent landowner who, although is generally supportive of it being located in the Stadium Quarter, is concerned over the design, layout and ‘impact upon the long-term delivery of the masterplan objectives’.

As part of the proposals, a CCTV system would be installed providing full coverage to the external areas, including the car park.

In May last year, the executive board backed plans for the youth zone, which would offer affordable activities in sports, arts, music, employability and mentoring for youngsters each week.

The council will contribute around £3 million towards the construction of the site.

The committee has been recommended to approve the application.
