RUNNERS, family and friends took on the annual Whitley 10k race on Sunday in the second leg of the Cheshire Road Race Grand Prix 2018.

Hosted by Whitley Village Hall, the event saw almost 1,000 people come together to run and support the race, which passed through some of the picturesque scenery in and around the village.

As one of only a few 10k races included on this year's Cheshire Road Race Grand Prix, the organisers are said to be delighted with the turnout and weather conditions on the day.

Peter Clayton, race coordinator, said: "We were worried that our on field parking would be impacted by all the rain and were in the early stages of plan B or even plan C, thankfully the sun came out and we had perfect conditions over the weekend.

"Our event is relatively small in terms of 10k races with a maximum of 500 runners, however for the village this is a huge effort and can only be achieved by the 100 or so volunteers who give their time so generously.

"A big thanks to all of them."

The next Cheshire Road Race Grand Prix will be the Mobberley 'round the runway' 5k on Tuesday, May 8 at Manchester Airport.
