A CHARITY team are set to climb each step of every Super League stadium in the UK.

Six climbers will run up and down the steps of the 11 homes of rugby league within 12 hours for the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation.

Starting at Hull FC's KCOM Stadium at 6.30am on Friday, April 27, the challenge will finish at the Halliwell Jones Stadium prior to Warrington Wolves' clash with the Huddersfield Giants.

The group will conquer approximately 17,000 steps on the day - equivalent to climbing up and down the Eiffel Tower 10 times.

Foundation disability development manager Craig Thomason is one of the six taking part.

He said: "We run up the steps at the stadium just to keep fit, and we wondered how long it would take us to do the full 11 English Super League stadiums.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time, but the closer it gets the more it doesn't feel like it.

"We really wanted to do something completely different, and I don't think anybody has done anything like this before.

"As the first team found out earlier this year, getting across the Pennines to Hull on the motorway is hard enough to do in 12 hours sometimes.

"Stopping off at all the different stadiums and doing the steps as well will be a real challenge."

The stadium tour is part of former England international full back Shaun Briscoe's 'set of six' challenge.

Now rugby league manager at the foundation, the 35-year-old will take on six physical trials in six months for the charity.

He is set to tackle a 160-mile row from Warrington to Newcastle ahead of the Magic Weekend, the three peaks, a triathlon and the English Half Marathon.

Shaun also completed the St Helens 10k last weekend.

Joining them during the steps challenge will be Will Maudsley and Peter Hanlon from the foundation, plus two members of staff from town centre-based claims management company Churchill Sloan.

Craig added: "Each challenge is with him and five other people, and the target is to raise £10,000.

"All the money raised will go towards the work that we do across the foundation.

"There is so much that we do, but all of it relies on donations and fundraising like this.

"I've run the English Half Marathon and cycled to Newcastle for the Magic Weekend before now for the foundation, but I think I'd rather do them back to back instead of the steps challenge.

"I think a well-deserved beer at the game will be in order when we finish."
