AN art exhibition which was born by the horror of the Grenfell Tower disaster has gone on display at Bank Quay House.

The Like It. Lump It. We Are All Connected. display, curated by full-time artist Beth Barlow from Northwich, has been open to the public since April 7.

It is said to be an 'an ever growing conceptual yarn work, video and drawing' that explores the idea of connection and togetherness through worldwide news stories.

The display was developed through workshops Beth held with groups across Warrington, including Creative Remedies, OPEG and Lifeline, at the beginning of the year.

During sessions, members spoke about current news issues important to them and learned practical crochet skills to put these into a visual art piece – linking them together in the process.

On how the idea came about, the 43-year-old said it began on the day the Grenfell Tower incident happened.

She said: "It was a shocking piece of news that went on for a long time.

"The blue and grey piece of the crochet represents Grenfell.

"The display is my effort to crochet the news, working on my own and alongside people in Warrington – several bits I created, and other bits were by other people.

"It is based on the concept that we are all linked together."

Beth started the art piece on her living room floor, but once it became too big, moved to Northwich Community Centre.

From there the artist, originally from Manchester, secured £14,000 of funding from the Arts Council to develop the project, working with groups and staging five exhibitions for the next year.

The exhibition began at Liverpool Hope University at the beginning of this year, before moving to Warrington where it will be on display until Thursday, May 24.

It will then showcase at galleries in Northwich, Salford and Birkenhead with the crochet exhibition expected to continue growing.

Admission is free for Like It. Lump It. We Are All Connected. and is open to the public at the gallery on Sankey Street between Monday and Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.
