A FIRM which worked on the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub has been singled out for special praise by one of the UK’s largest contractors.

Vaughan Engineering, based in Birchwood, won the regional contractor of the year award given by major contractor BAM Construction, based at Exchange Quay in Salford.

A second contractor, Profiles Brickwork from Wigan was a close second in the annual quality award, while a third, Allied Scaffolding from Oldham, were also runners up in the health and safety category.

Vaughan Engineering worked for BAM on the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Leisure Centre scheme, a complex but successful scheme for which they provided mechanical and electrical services and plumbing.

BAM’s director for the north west, Ian Fleming, said: “Although we deliver some of the UK’s largest and most complex projects, we reply on our subcontractors and our relationships with them to help us keep everybody on site safe, and to raise the bar on the quality of the work we do.

“It’s vital to our success that we manage our supply chain fairly, pay them on time, and involve them in our management processes to get the best from them. And that’s why we celebrate their success.”
