A GROUP of 12 amateur hikers will be journeying up the highest mountain in Wales on Saturday after just two months preparation.

Domestic staff, carers and family and friends from Westy Hall Care Home will embark on a six hour trek of Mount Snowdon to raise funds for its residents.

The residential home, run by Minister Care Group on Marsden Avenue, specialises in caring for elderly people with dementia and is completely self-funded.

This means that any activities, outings or entertainment the home enjoys are thanks to fundraising events organised by its staff, family and friends.

Georgina Buckler, activities coordinator at Westy Hall Care Home, said previous events have included garden parties, tombolas, raffles and bingo nights, with all money raised going towards the residents.

Georgina, from Orford, said: "It was put forward two months ago by one of the domestic staff, Lucy.

"Four of the group have some experience hiking, but the other eight don't.

"We will leave for Wales at 7.30am on Saturday, before starting the hike at 9.30am.

"It should take us around six hours to complete."
