A DOG training centre in Lymm is preparing to take part in the region's largest dog show this Easter.

The Animal Behaviour Centre, on Tanyard Farm, will be on hand at Dog Mania, organised by Merseyside Dogs Home, on Saturday March 31 and Sunday April 1, at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool.

Highly skilled trainers Dave Campbell and Tina Meaney, will be showing visitors easy ways to train their dog – with the help from rescue dogs Gus and Hettie, who will be demonstrating obedience and agility tricks.

Eight-month-old Shetland Sheepdog Marvin, who has been trained to provide therapy work in hospitals, will also be meeting visitors.

Paul Dunne, founder of Merseyside Dogs Home and Dog Mania organiser, said: "Dog Mania is a celebration of dogs, especially rescue dogs.

"We will demonstrating what some of our rescue dogs have been doing and what they have achieved.

"We will be giving awards for the performances by dog display teams across the weekend, and trying to find the happiest dog in Liverpool.

"Dog Mania will be our best and most action-packed event yet and we are delighted to have such a large indoor space where we can really create something special – we hope the 2018 show can raise as much as possible for Merseyside Dogs Home to help continue to support all the great work with our four-legged friends in the region."

Dog Mania comes after the success of Merseyside Dogs Home Bark in the Park which has taken place at Calderstones Park, in Liverpool, since 2014.

The indoor event will combine live demonstrations, competitions, health checks and expert pet advice, along with doggy photoshoots and competitions - including Best in Show and Fastest Dog.

The Animal Behaviour Centre will have a 20-minute slot on both Saturday and Sunday, to meet visitors and introduce the rescue dogs.

The centre has helped train and rehome a number of dogs at the Halewood centre, and hopes to continue this by integrating The Kennel Club's Good Citizen Scheme – introducing dogs to domestic obedience exercises.

They also aid and guide new dog owners with any issues that they may have through a range of classes.
