A SPORTS club is planning to install floodlight pylons at its home ground.

Six 14m high pylons would be constructed at Rylands Recreation Club under an application for planning permission submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

Proposed to be in use until as late as 10pm, the club says the floodlights will enable it to play evening games at its base on Gorsey Lane in Orford.

A number of improvements are planned at the ground as part of Rylands FC’s application to join the North West Counties Football League for the 2018/19 season.

In its application, the club said: “We intend to fully utilise the floodlights by introducing multiple sports to the pitch and by integrating the local community into the project by including girls and women’s sports as well as walking football and veterans’ football.

“Most of all, pushing to get as many inactive children playing sports will hopefully bring down obesity levels and reduce youth crime within the area.

“All in all, this proposal will make it into a real community sports club for all within the Orford area.”

A consultation on the plans runs until Tuesday, April 10.
