A DAD-OF-TWO is close to finishing a year of adventurous fundraising after completing 11 physical challenges for charity.

Scott Baron, from Grappenhall, started ‘Scott’s DirtyDozen’ to raise money for the charity Beating Bowel Cancer.

Along the way, Scott has invited friends to join in on the various challenges and he is due to complete his final task on Saturday, March 17.

The former British Army soldier, is no stranger to physical challenges but describes himself as 'far from an endurance athlete'.

He aimed to raise £2,000 for his chosen charity but has managed to exceed his target with an impressive £5,390 raised to date.

Over the past year, the 32-year-old has undertaken various gruelling challenges including a 34-mile walk from Anfield to Old Trafford, a 60-mile cycle around the Isle of Anglesey, a 26-mile swim and a 26-mile paddle along the Bridgewater Canal from Leigh to Lymm.

Scott’s close friend Andrew Hill, who lost his large intestine to bowel cancer, accompanied him during the Three Peaks Challenge.

For his penultimate challenge, five friends joined Scott in February to run a 70-mile relay race along Hadrian’s Wall.

However, it was challenge number 10 which gave his friends the most enjoyment, as Scott allowed everyone the chance to decide what his challenge would be.

Scott, a large enterprise project manager at Nimans in Manchester, was initially encouraged to shave his head but the challenge soon went further.

For ‘Brave the Shave’, Scott set various thresholds for his total fundraising efforts, meaning he would have to shave and wax his entire body if he reached £5,250.

Scott said: “The idea came from the many suggestion from people who didn’t approve of the fitness challenges and basically just wanted to see me embarrass myself on the internet.”

Writing on his blog, Scott added: "All in all, the challenge was a nice change to the fitness related challenges completed to that point and did raise a great amount of money and interest in the DirtyDozen adventure."

Each of Scott’s adventures have been documented on Facebook and his blog, through live videos and photo updates.
