A GROUP of talented dancers from Rogers Academy of Irish Dancing are preparing to compete at the World Championships in Glasgow next week.

The five girls have been training for the past 12 months to participate in the prestigious event, which will see them compete against the top 10 per cent of dancers from each continent, within their age groups.

Olivia Burns, 10, from Mold, Abi Rechinger, 13, from Liverpool, Abi Shrimpton, 15, from Southport, and Kinzy Smith, 20, from Runcorn, will all be representing the academy at the event, after qualifying in the north west heats in December.

Priestley College student Rebecca Rowlinson, 17, from Woolston will also be making her debut on the world stage.

Kieran Rogers, lead teacher at the academy, said: "We are extremely proud of all our dancers, more so those who will be representing the academy and the north west at the forthcoming World Irish Dancing Championships.

"The girls have worked extremely hard and are now in the final stages of their preparation.

"We wish them all the very best of luck and success."

Classes take place at Alford Sports Club, Manchester Road and Richmonds Club in Latchford.

The World Irish Dancing Championships 2018 will take place from Saturday March 24 to Sunday April 1.
