HUNDREDS of children in Lymm are set to learn more about Easter thanks to a special event at a village church.

Children from Cherry Tree, Statham, Oughtrington and Ravenbank primary schools will be attending Experience Easter events at St Mary’s in the village over the next few weeks.

Experience Easter is a series of six interactive displays telling the story of Easter and around 275 children will be guided by church volunteers through the displays and will different activities on offer at each display.

For example at the Hopes and Dreams display which tells the story of Palm Sunday there is a road, palm leaves and a cross.

Rev Bev Jameson, Rector of St Mary the Virgin Lymm, said “In my previous parish, children brought their families to show them the activities they had done during their school visit.

“We found that mums dads and other adults did the activities too.

“It does not matter if you are seven or 70 we are alone and afraid sometimes and we can write or draw something to remind us of that and leave it in the Garden of Gethsemane.

“I really hope people come, enjoy the displays and learn a little more about the story of Easter.”

The displays were launched on Monday and are not just for children.

Adults are welcome to join in the activities and enjoy a quiet moment to reflect and pray.

The church is open on Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10am and 12pm for general members of the public to visit.

The church will also be open especially to visit the Experience Easter displays and take part in the activities between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday.

And there will be a special guided Experience Easter for children who have not visited the church through their schools at 2pm next Saturday, March 24.

While between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday, March 31 there is an Easter Egg Hunt Find where paper Easter Eggs are hidden inside the church with the chance to win a Midi Chocolate Easter Egg and story book.

There will be lots of crafts to make stories and songs as well as tea coffee and cake and the chance to visit the displays.
