A TRADESMAN has revamped part of the children's ward at Warrington Hospital in thanks for the care his baby son received on the unit.

Daniel Crosby's son Logan spent five days in hospital after contracting sepsis at the age of 15 months.

While on the children's ward, the Orford resident found that its parents' room was in dire need of a makeover.

The DC Installations kitchen and bathroom fitter tore out the old suite and installed a new one free of charge - including cupboards, tiling, a worktop, sink and taps.

Daniel, of Cheviot Avenue, said: "We were so well looked after by all the staff on the ward that I wanted to show my appreciation.

"Hopefully this will help make the room more comfortable for parents and possible take a little pressure off the staff on the ward."

Materials for the project were donated by B&Q, while flooring and paintwork was completed by JMBC Building Contractors and Cheshire Contract Flooring and Polyflor.

On Tuesday, February 27, Daniel was the guest of honour during the grand reopening of the newly-refurbished parents' room.

He was given the honour of cutting the ribbon to declare the facility open, and was joined by Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's chairman Steve McGuirk and chief nurse Kimberley Salmon-Jamieson as well as staff from the children's ward and B&Q.

Helen Higginson, fundraising manager at Warrington and Halton Hospitals' Charity, said: "WHH Charity wishes to express its appreciated of this kind gesture.

"The difference it will make to the families of young patients is more than you can imagine.

"Now, parents will have the opportunity to take a break and recharge with a cup of tea in a room that is - unlike the previous one - bright and welcoming."
