APPLETON Parish Council is planning to turn two derelict telephone boxes into a children's library, history hub - and storage for a defibrillator.

The council bought the BT phone boxes for £1 each and has applied for a grant from the National Lottery Awards for all refurbishment works.

The first box, located at the corner of Clydesdale Road and Bridge Lane, will be turned into a lending library.

Books will be changed regularly and will include a selection of children's books.

The second, on Lyons Lane and London Road, will become a history hub - displaying local history, specifically that of South Warrington - and will also house a defibrillator.

Both boxes are in a badly vandalised state but are hoped to be renovated in the spring and put back to use.

The Parish Council are asking for local residents to get in contact if they have any history items that may be of interest.
