WOOLSTON Rovers Amateur Rugby League Club have unveiled the first 13 members of their newly created Hall of Fame.

Each player, or a family representative, were in attendance as the honour was bestowed on each of the inductees at the club’s season launch dinner staged at The Masonic Hall.

Harry Crank, Gary Hickey, Warren Ayres, Ronnie Duane, Mark Forster, John Boyle, Neil Kelly, Clint Rylance, Brian Dutton, Joe Chamberlain, Warren Whalley, Eric Forrest and Julian Hatcher make up the inaugural 13 for roles they have played in the club’s history.

It is planned tat new members will be added to the Hall of Fame each year.

Rovers Chairman Liam Horrigan said:“Woolston Rovers has a very proud 59-year history and for many years has been the leading amateur rugby league club in Warrington.

“Our junior section is huge and growing on an almost week-by-week basis and the number of amateur internationals and professional players that have come through the ranks at the club is second to none.

“As we approach our diamond jubilee it seemed right that we recognised some of the people that helped to establish the club as the place it is today and we were ecstatic to have all 13 inductees represented either in person or by family members.

“The plan is for the Hall of Fame to grow, and already in the bar after the presentations, there was much discussion as to who the next three inductees will be in 2019.

“If anybody with any current or former connections to the club has any suggestions as to who they would like to see inducted, we’d be keen to hear from them and all recommendations will be passed on to the first 13 inductees who will meet in advance of our dinner next year to select their next three members.”

Warrington Wolves assistant coach Andrew Henderson and his wife joined the Mayor of Warrington, Clr Les Morgan, as special guests.

SJM Concerts provided auction prizes that helped raise some much needed funds for club activities over the coming season.
