AN RAF Physical Training Instructor from Great Sankey will embark on an adventure of a lifetime this Spring by running 828 miles.

Corporal Tom Sherrington, 31, will join Corporal Gary Binns, 32, from Yorkshire, to run from John O’Groats to Land’s End on April 23.

They will cover 36 miles per day and are aiming to finish at Land’s End 25 days later.

The pair will cover 828 miles on foot – a journey which has only been achieved by a handful of people.

To recognise both distance and locations involved, the athletic duo are naming the adventure JOGLE828.

The route takes the men through Warrington where Corporal Tom Sherrington grew up in Great Sankey.

As part of the journey, the pair are looking to raise money for three charities: the RAF Benevolent Fund, MIND and to support fellow RAF Regiment Gunner, Jordan Brown, who is suffering from a benign brain tumour.

Corporal Binns served alongside Jordan Brown and remains a close friend.

The tumour requires extensive surgery that can only be performed privately in Texas, USA.

On January 13, the pair started their preparation by participating in their first Ultra running event of the year - Country to Capital.

This event started in Wendover and finished 45 miles later in London’s Paddington. They both completed the event in just over seven hours.

After reflecting upon their Country to Capital Ultra run, the pair said: “It was a good experience and puts into perspective how much of a challenge JOGLE828 will be. The run was both physically and emotionally demanding.”

In addition, British running and clothing brand ashmei is supporting both men in their build up by supplying them with technical sports apparel. The brand will be helping the pair design and produce a unique training T-shirt which will be sold in order to raise funds for the charities.
