A 42-YEAR-OLD Orford man who assaulted a police officer while on a night out has been ordered to pay £515.
Matthew Blackburn, of Byron Court, pleaded guilty to assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty and drunk and disorderly behaviour, on Bold Street, on December 23 when he appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court last Friday.
After arriving to the scene shortly after 12.10am, the officer was assaulted before Blackburn was 'taken to the floor' following assistance and arrested.
The court heard that the officer was left with 'pain and swelling' of the chin following the incident.
During his interview, Blackburn, who has no previous convictions, said 'he could not fully remember everything'.
He told the magistrates that he 'can't apologise enough' for his behaviour.
He added: "I am actually on medication, which I think has impaired my judgement.
"I drank cocktails and spirits which I would not normally drink.
"I still can't believe the way I acted, I am disgusted with myself.
"I have let down myself and my family.
"I was out with friends.
"For me to act like that is so out of character, it is unbelievable."
Blackburn was ordered to pay a £300 fine, £100 compensation, £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge for the assault and received a conditional discharge for six months for the drunk and disorderly behaviour.
