THE wife of a bigamist who was exposed when she spotted him appearing on Ant and Dec’s Saturday with his other wife has expressed her shock after her estranged husband was jailed.

Daniel Gundry was handed six months behind bars last week for being married to two women at once, having been caught out when appearing on the hit ITV show with one of his wives.

But Helen Gundry, who spotted the 39-year-old with his other wife while watching the programme at her home in Padgate in April 2016, has expressed her shock at the ‘unexpected’ jail sentence.

Helen said: “It was totally unexpected – we weren’t expecting a custodial sentence at all.

“We were expecting either a suspended sentence, community service or even a fine at a push – we weren’t expecting him to go to jail, and neither were the police.

“I really don’t know whether it was a just sentence.

“With him being my daughter’s father, she was really upset and she can’t bear the thought of him being in prison.”

Helen had married Gundry, of Ashford in Surrey, in 1998 but split up in 2010 shortly after they had moved to Dubai.

The couple later rekindled their relationship in 2016, but Helen was unaware that her husband had married Susan Brooker in the Seychelles in April 2015.

She discovered the love rat’s web of lies when he appeared with Ms Brooker in a segment of the show featuring the live TV wedding of the latter’s sister.

On Wednesday, January 10, Daniel Gundry was jailed for six months at Warrington Magistrates Court having admitted bigamy during an earlier hearing in December.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 by magistrates.

Gundry had originally been cautioned for the offence, but the matter was reinvestigated by police following a complaint that this punishment was insufficient.

Helen and her 17-year-old daughter are now keen to move on from the affair.

She added: “We just want to put it to bed now because it has been tough – more so on my daughter than me, and she’s very low at the moment.

“It’s been very tough on her because she’s at the age where she’s studying at college and doing exams.

“We thought we would be able to move on before now when he had his caution, but it came back to court.

“This time we know that it’s over with and it’s done, so we can try and move on now.”
