FIND out the secrets of trees in the winter on a walk around Gorse Covert Mounds next month.

As part of the Carbon Landscape project, a Heritage Lottery funded restoration project that covers Wigan, Warrington and Salford, a guided winter tree ID walk is taking place on Saturday, February 10.

Expert David Dutton will be walking round the nature reserve to share the secrets of how to tell winter trees apart.

A spokesman said: "Even though it might look a bit bare outside, this is a time when certain characteristics of trees come to life.

"Even though they might seem bare, this is when we can see the overall shapes of them, the way their branches are structured, the patterns in their bark, the way that each individual tree has defining characteristics of its own that are often more of a challenge to see during the summer months."

The walk is free event, simply dress up warm and email kchambers@lancswt.org.uk for enquiries and booking.
