PLANS to build a skate park in Burtonwood are in ‘real trouble’.

Last week councillors and parish councillors met for a site visit following a public consultation to collect residents’ views on the project.

Cllr Cathy Mitchell (Burtonwood and Winwick - LAB) said: “This project is in real trouble.

“Meetings have been very poorly attended but we are grateful to those who have stepped up to help.

“The council and councillors cannot do this alone – funders need to see that the community are behind projects or they won’t fund them.

“A lot of residents said that they wanted this project but it seems that no-one wants to be involved.

“There is also information to suggest that an outside gym and other activities are being installed at Clock Face Country Park on Gorsey Lane.

“That is a very close provision and would make getting funding much more difficult.

“We concluded that as things stand, this project will end. I would like to say a big thank you to Anne and the neighbourhood team for all of the hard work they have put into this project.”

Previously the Warrington Guardian has reported on the proposal to build either a skate park or outdoor gym on the park next to Gorsey Lane and Clay Lane.

The development would have been set back from the park.

“Unless the community comes forward to help it won’t happen. We can’t do it alone,” added Cllr Mitchell.
