FORMER European Tour star and life long member of Birchwood Golf Club Phillip Archer begins 2018 placed second in the Manchester and District Alliance Order of Merit.

After the festive break, competitors return to competition at Houldsworth Golf club on Wednesday January 17th.

Archer lies just 52 points behind leader Craig Corrigan with 19 events yet to play- including a favourable trip to home club Birchwood.

The Warrington man is challenging for this winter seasons honours despite playing fewer events than most of his competitors.

Archer’s debut in the GB&I professionals’ PGA Cup team in September meant he missed the 3rd event of the Alliance series held at Dunham Forest.

Archer’s selection in this Ryder Cup style event largely came down to being crowned PGA North Region Champion in July of 2017 as well as boasting three career wins on the Challenge Tour.

As the most experienced player in the mix for the Order of Merit, Archer will be confident he can prevail when the final event at Davyhulme Golf Club takes place on 2nd May.
