A MOTORIST who was charged with drink driving after a crash involving a car and a bus in Birchwood is now behind bars.

Philip Clayton, of Armstrong Close, Birchwood, was sentenced to 14 weeks in jail at Warrington Magistrates' Court on December 26.

The 33-year-old was sent to prison for breaching a suspended sentence after he was previously hauled before the court for harassment in an unrelated case.

He was also sentenced for drink driving, failing to stop at an accident and driving without due care and attention.

This follows the crash on December 23 on Locking Stumps Lane in Birchwood.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "We received reports of an RTC involving a bus and a car in Birchwood.

"The driver ran off before patrols arrived.

"Great work by PCs Cuerden and Shields led to one male under arrest on suspicion of a variety of offences including drink driving."
