PLANS have been submitted to build nine new apartments on land in Sankey Bridges bordering a park and a main road.

Eight two-bedroom flats and one three-bedroom apartment could be constructed on a 1,952sq m site to the west of Wimbourne Close, neighbouring Sankey Way, Sankey Brook and Sankey Recreation Ground.

A similar application for planning permission to Warrington Borough Council in 2015 was refused over worries that the development could have ‘resulted in the collapse of the A57, which could cause death or serious injury to motorists and occupiers of the development'.

The new plans submitted include 14 car parking spaces for residents of the proposed apartment blocks.

In its application, Southport-based Abalone Estates said: “It is noted from the summary prepared by the officer’s report that the planning permission would be granted in the same or similar form to the previous submission, save that there were concerns from the highways officer.

“This application therefore is similar to the previous application, save that the applicant has engaged the services of Highways Advice Ltd to address all of the issues raised.

“The land is secluded and represents a potential danger to unauthorised visitors to the site, such as children or undesirables being attracted to the area due to its secluded area.

“A delay in developing the site would prejudice its ultimately successful regeneration, in that as the land is vacant and refuse continues to accumulate the visual amenity of the area would be significantly prejudiced.”

A consultation on the plans runs until Monday, January 15.
