CANADIAN coffee chain Tim Hortons has announced the official opening date for their Warrington restaurant.

The Golden Square Shopping Centre store will open December 20 at 10am in the former Jane Norman unit near Debenhams.

This opening continues the nationwide rollout plan for Tim Hortons and follows the opening of the first English store and first drive-through on Bury New Road in Manchester on December 18.

More stores are due to open in the Greater Manchester area before the end of the year.

The first Tim Hortons restaurant in the UK opened on Argyle Street in Glasgow at the start of June.

The long-awaited launch was met with a lot of excitement with fans travelling from across the country and queuing overnight to be the first to sample the brand’s popular coffee and baked goods.

Tim Hortons was founded by its namesake, a top professional ice hockey player, who wanted to create a space where everyone would feel at home.

Now one of Canada’s most iconic brands, nearly eight out of 10 cups of coffee sold across Canada are served at Tim Hortons.

The menu includes freshly brewed coffee, espresso-based beverages, hot chocolate, French Vanilla and classic frozen Iced Capp drinks as well as baked goods, breakfast and lunch items and the signature Timbits - bite-sized doughnuts which come in a variety of flavours.

Kevin Hydes, Chief Finance and Commercial Officer of the Tim Hortons franchise in the UK said: “The north west is a great area, and we’re delighted to be opening our new restaurant in Warrington. The buzz we’ve seen following our openings in Wales and Scotland has been exceptional."

Ian Cox, Centre Director for Golden Square Shopping Centre, said he was delighted that the exciting eatery was joining the centre.

“We’re thrilled that shoppers will soon be able to enjoy the amazing transatlantic tastes at our latest coffee shop and restaurant,” said Ian.

"We’ve been working hard to make Golden Square a real destination, where people can shop, eat and drink, and to ensure we give our shoppers a choice of different dining options."
