A DAZZLING night of dance at the Strictly St Rocco's showcase raised £64,000 to help patients and families supported by the charity.

More than 400 guests packed out the room at Mere Golf Resort and Spa in Knutsford on Sunday night to watch 10 amateur dancers take to the floor.

This year, the audience was able to hear first-hand about the difference that support can make as Chris Patino, whose wife was cared for by staff at St Rocco's last year, spoke about his family's experience.

More than £64,000 was raised from the event – the highest amount to date – following generosity from guests.

All the dancers taking part achieved high scores but it was Catherine Street Motors general manager Chris Downey and his professional partner Holly Hewitt, who secured four 10s for their exhilarating Charleston.

The pair were crowned Strictly St Rocco's 2017 champions and picked up the coveted glitterball trophy after coming out on top with the judges and audience.

St Rocco's fundraising manager Lauren Tilston said the charity, which is based on Lockton Lane in Bewsey, has been left 'over the moon with the response' to the event.

She added: "The dancers must be congratulated for their commitment and dedication, not only to learning to dance, but also for the fantastic amount they have raised through their sponsorship efforts.

"The audience has been incredibly generous and it is wonderful that we have raised more than ever before to help our patients and families.

"We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us in whatever way for this year's event."
