THE rugby league community paid tribute to respected former player Mick Martyn at his funeral on Friday.
Past teammates and present players attended the service of Mick, who ranked amongst the greatest sportsmen to play for Leigh, at Saint Lewis' Catholic Church in Croft where he lived.
Mick died at the age of 81 following a short illness on November 26.
His former teammates who were in attendance included legendary prop Stan Owen, centres Gordon Lewis, Ray Fisher and Mick Collins as well as winger Rod Tickle and goal kicker Colin Tyrer.
Stars from the 1960s and 70s including Eric Gregory, Bob Welding, Tommy Davies and Roy Lester also paid their respects.
Centurions' owner Derek Beaumont, manager Neil Jukes, head of rugby Keiron Cunningham and members of the current squad were at the funeral as well.
