TV presenter Stephen Mulhern has been spotted filming for a new series of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in the town centre.

While co-presenting Geordie duo Ant and Dec are out enjoying the Australian sunshine for the latest series of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Mulhern was seen shooting his In for a Penny segment of hit ITV show Saturday Night Takeaway at Market Gate and in the Old Fish Market today, Tuesday.

In for a Penny gives shoppers the chance to win £1,000 if they have a 1p coin on them and can complete certain tasks set by the 40-year-old presenter.

Mulhern, who was seen in the company of a giant chicken, posed for selfies with fans after challenging one woman to blow up a balloon by bouncing up and down on a foot pump.

The same contestant was also asked to remember the last text she received.

The star of shows including Catchphrase and Britain’s Got More Talent said: “I’ve never been to Warrington before but I’ve really enjoyed it.

“People here are up for a laugh, which is important in this segment.”

Contestant Julie Garfield, pictured above, says she was out on her dinner hour with a colleague when she spotted Mulhern.

The 51-year-old recruitment agency employee said: "I bypassed the cameras to get a good picture of him and then they asked if I wanted to play.

"I've seen it on the TV but you never expect it to happen to you.

"My daughter was crying laughing when she saw me on the Warrington Guardian website.

"I got through three rounds but the last one to win the money was trying to pop a balloon sitting on a foot pump and it was just never going to happen.

"It would have been quite nice to win the money before Christmas but it was just a bit of fun."

The team spent a few hours challenging a number of shoppers around the town centre during lunchtime.

The show is expected to be aired in March next year.
