MORE than 400 people gathered in Birchwood for the annual service of Remembrance.
The Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs was in attendance along with a host of civic dignitaries at the service which was conducted by the Reverend Allison Claxton who is also a Birchwood Lion. Lion President Erica Collins laid a wreath on behalf of her club.
The Birchwood Brass band played and school children sang with 100 ceramic poppies were placed by children. Poet David Horrigan, a former Birchwood Lion, recited a poem especially written for the service.
The creation of the Cenotaph and flag mast was the result of a collaboration between Birchwood Shopping Centre and the Lions.
Lion David Thomas JP thought of the idea and a sculptor created the work which bears the index finger imprints of 200 children and adults on the surface of the aluminium memorial.
