ANDREW Henderson is confident the qualities embedded in personnel within Warrington Wolves’ coaching department will rub off on the players in 2018.

The former London Broncos head coach is charged with assisting new head coach Steve Price in turning fortunes around after a ninth-placed finish in Super League this year.

He is to do so with support from Wire legends Lee Briers, assistant coach, and Jon Clarke, head of strength and conditioning as well as highly decorated former Leeds Rhinos prop Kylie Leuluai, head of rugby operations.

Hendo believes he and Price, who won NRL premierships as assistant to Wayne Bennett at St George Illawarra Dragons and Shane Flanagan at Cronulla Sharks, share values of playing entertaining rugby combined with defensive grit.

And he feels that their experiences of coaching in the UK and Down Under can mesh well.

“Steve comes from the NRL where the style of play is at times slightly different to Super League,” said the former Balmain Tigers, Castleford Tigers and Sheffield Eagles hooker.

“I’m here to pass on the knowledge, experience and expertise that I have of the British game.

“As an assistant, you pass on your thoughts and ultimately the head coach takes it on board and makes the final decision.

“Steve is big on getting the ball in hand and he has a strong defensive ethos, so we’re similar in those ways.

“Having had that experience as a head coach, I know what Steve will be dealing with, so I’m here to help alleviate some of the pressure if I can.

“We’ve got a strong performance team that is young, energetic, dynamic and hungry to achieve, and I’m hoping that will rub off on the players and drive them to achieve something special which they certainly have the ability to do.”
